Dream - Mixed Media Journal - Open Studio Challenge

Hi! It's been such a busy week and I had planned to blog this a little earlier but there are never enough hours in the day to get it all done! So here I am, in between folding loads of laundry and starting on some commissions - quickly typing and drinking coffee, lol. 

Have you seen Finnabair's new Open Studio group on Facebook? No? Well you can find it HERE. It's chock full of inspiration, tips and ideas and there is also a little challenge - all of the details of that are HERE. 

It's been so long since I entered any challenges so I had a little bit of a play around... 

 There is a little too much to detail exactly what I did so I will give a quick run down of the supplies I used.

Steampunk Mixed Media Journal Page

Good morning!! Today I am sharing a mixed media journal entry I made recently. In line with this week's Inspiration theme on La-La Land Crafts I am using left over pieces of the Steampunk Shadow Box Kit, the Steampunk Frames and Shapes and some Steampunk Clock die cuts. The sentiment is from the NEW Beautiful Day Sentiments. 

I started out by layering on some gesso on the page and quickly drying it with a heat gun. I then adhered some Steampunk Clocks around the page and applied another layer of gesso. On top of that I added some texture with stencils and modelling paste. I repeated the process with cogs from the Steampunk Shadowbox Kit and the Steampunk Frames & Shapes. 

For background colour I used Dylusions Sprays - Crushed Grape and Dirty Martini, drying with a heat gun in between applications. I then added some Chestnut Brown and Wine & Roses Silks over the raised areas. Once it had dried I applied a thick coat of Transparent Viva Crackling Colour over random areas on the cogs.

I stamped out the sentiment and cut it up with a scissors. I used a sharpie paint pen to outline it and adhered it to the layout. Then I rubbed some colour over it to blend it in. 

Finally I added some white dots on the cogs with a white paint pen.

Remain Creative & Curious - Mixed Media Canvas

Good morning! Popping in quickly with a little canvas I made recently. I started it at the Create with Kate craft event last weekend and have been playing around with it since. 

On the background I used a mix of Dylusions & Glimmer Mist sprays, drywall tape, stencils and stamps. Then I layered on some buttons, flowers, chipboard lattice, washi tape, chipboard butterfly/bird cage and chipboard letters. I Gesso'd them all and then sprayed them with more Dylusions.

 Taking a flat brush I added 2-3 layers of Silks 'Emperor Gold' acrylic glaze to the raised areas (buttons, butterfly, cage, letters, etc) and to the edges of the large flower. 

I added some Chit Chat stickers, sealing them with matt medium. 

And finally I added some crackling paint to the butterfly. Seriously cannot get enough of this stuff - LOVE IT!! 

 I am entering this into the Mixed Media Place Emotional Challenge which is Curiosity

Courage - Journal Entry

Good afternoon!! I've been having  lots of crafty fun with mixed media lately and today I have a journal page to share.

Supplies: 

Gesso, 7 Dots Studio "Drive All Night" from the Dreamer collection, Chipboard shapes and frames, Gelatos, Glimmer Mist & Dylusions spray, Distress Inks; Pine Needles, Evergreen Bough, Mustard Seed & Vintage Photo, Clear embossing powder, chipboard butterflies, metal key charm, tag, chunky white enamel, alphabet stickers, Tim Holtz stamp, stencil, modeling paste, mod pogde, twine & Sharpie white paint pen.

For the background I added a thick layer of guesso and dried it off with my heat gun. I then spritzed it with various colours and layered on some of the 7 Dots papers with matt mod podge. Finally I used a script stencil and modelling paste to add the text.

To alter the frame and clock I used both Mustard Seed and Vintage photo distress inks and then heat embossed them with clear embossing powder. 

I did the same with the butterflies, with Pine Needles & Evergreen Bough distress inks and clear embossing powder. Then I added an outline with the Sharpie paint pen. 

I distressed the edges of the tag with Vintage Photo distress ink, stamped my sentiment with Archival black ink and melted some white chunk enamel onto it. Then I tied some packaging twine through the tag. 

The page is quite dimensional and has loads of different textures, which something I am working on for my pages and canvases.  The theme for the page was inspired by this month's emotion challenge over on the Mixed Media Place blog, which is Courage.

Home Sweet Home - Mixed Media Tag

Howdy bloggers! I hope your Saturday is treating you well. It's a lazy day here in this household, too wet and cold to venture outdoors so it's crafting, movie watching and generally being sloths for the day, lol. 

I had a bit of a play around wtih some inks, sprays and stamps yesterday and I decided to make a tag to enter into the challenge over on the Mixed Media Place blog. They want to see projects with Glimmer mists used on them... and this is what I came up with. 

I started out with a 6"x3" manilla tag and I covered it with some papers by Prima. I used mod podge to adhere it down. I then added a thin layer of gesso and once it dried I spritzed the background with Patina, Kiwi & Lemongrass Glimmer Mists - drying with a heat gun between layers. I also used a yellow spray from Dylusions. Then I added some more paper detail, around the edges and sealed them with more mod podge. 

I stamped out the house and used Creall Silkies to colour it in, then I sealed it. The sentiment is from a Waltzingmouse Stamps stamp set. I cut it apart, adhered it down and outlined it with a Black fine point Sharpie paint pen. 

The butterfly was in the pattern of one of the papers so I just trimmed it out and stuck it down, layering some mod podge over it. I took the lid of my mod podge and pressed it down into a brown inkpad, using it to create the circles. 

To make the house stand out more I also outlined that with the Sharpie paint pen. 

All in all I was quite pleased with how it turned out. I have some more mixed media supplies winging their way to me and I am excited to start playing with it.... so expect to see a lot more in the coming weeks :D

Courage is being yourself...

Afternoon bloggers!!  I was searching through my posts on blogger when I came across this one, in draft mode, which was scheduled to go live last week and I have been so busy that I didn't realise it hadn't.. not cool Blogger, NOT cool!!! 

Anyway, I have something a little different to share with you. I recently signed up to participate in a mixed media circle journal and so I tried my hand at making a mixed media canvas as one of my design team projects for Quixotic Paperie. 

The stamp I've featured is from Susana Loves Stamps' NEW mixed media release, Blank Canvas, and this one is called Flights of Botanica. She has been stamped out using Adirondack paint. 

For the background I used 4 different colour sprays (Glimmer Mist & Dylusions). Then I layered on a white doily, which I painted over, and stamped out my sentiment. I added some Prima washi tape and a metal charm tied with button floss. I cut the butterfly out from some Prima paper and coated it with glossy accents. To finish I doodled on some stitching. 

I love how it turned out and will definitely be dabbling a bit more :D
